Samaresh Majumdar was born on March 10, 1944. He spent his childhood in the tea gardens of the Dooars. He was a student at Jalpaiguri Zilla School and moved to Kolkata in 1960. He pursued his education in Bengali Honours from Scottish Church College and later obtained an M.A. from the University of Calcutta.
Initially involved in group theater, he transitioned to writing plays and eventually stories. His first story was published in "Desh" magazine in 1967. His first novel, "Dour," was published in 1975 in the same magazine.

Samaresh Majumdar's contributions to Bengali literature have been significant, and his works continue to resonate with readers.
