"In ancient India, among the foreign travelers who visited our country, the Greek traveler Megasthenes was one of the earliest, arriving during the reign of Chandragupta Maurya. He wrote about India in a book titled 'The Indica' in Greek—a rare work. However, over time, parts of it were compiled by various individuals, such as Arrian. From these compilations, a book was written in Latin and Greek.

Later, Rajanikanta Guha, the principal of Barisal College, and a scholar in English, Sanskrit, Greek, Latin, and French, translated it into Bengali directly. During his tenure as a professor at Burdwan University, Professor Baridbaran Ghosh edited this rare text."
