Each of the seven essays in this book contains multiple stories. These stories are not imagined—they are real. Behind each one lies a thread of history: personal, familial, social, and in many cases, international. One of the seven essays is titled **“Unnati, Utthan o Abhyutthan”** (*Progress, Rise, and Uprising*), which also lends its name to the book. This essay encapsulates the central themes of the entire work. Progress has happened; a rise is indeed occurring—but the critical question remains: *whose* progress, *what kind* of progress, and *how much* progress? Our development is capitalist in nature, benefiting primarily the privileged. Fascism, the author argues, is the ultimate consequence of capitalism. Fascist rulers attempt to pit development against democracy—just as U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump tried to do. He won the election. Around the same time, in August 2024, a fascist government fell in our own country—one that also believed it could suppress the call for democracy by showcasing development. But it failed. However, fascism is not merely about a few rulers—it is a global issue. It is now clear that elections alone cannot defeat it. But does an uprising guarantee the fall of fascism? No, it does not. To truly eliminate fascism, an uprising must be revolutionary—seeking to replace private ownership with social ownership. These ideas are explored in the essays written between March 2023 and September 2024. In this book, reason is paired with sensitivity.
