The sky of literature has perhaps been the most star-studded and radiant—over several decades—thanks to the writings of Latin American artists. Fragments of that brilliance have glimmered within the scope of the Bengali language. Some works—poetry, fiction, essays, or interviews—have been translated, primarily from English and occasionally from the original languages. However, analytical essays in Bengali on the rich literary traditions and writers of that vast region are quite scarce. In other words, Bengali prose on that literary stream remains insufficient. It is, therefore, a matter of great pride that Raju Alauddin, having lived in Mexico for many years, has been a firsthand observer of the region’s public life, language, and culture.
