From its inception, Desh magazine has honored the literary and artistic essence of Bengali short stories. It has upheld the tradition of publishing remarkable and innovative short fiction. Desh takes pride in showcasing the finest works of established writers as well as the best stories from emerging authors. Though it may sound like a claim of prestige, it must be said—Desh remains the foremost platform for Bengali short stories.

This magazine has never confined itself to rigid boundaries when it comes to short fiction. It has embraced the evolving landscape of storytelling across decades, welcoming changes in form, structure, and thematic diversity without hesitation. This commitment to evolution has made Desh the most trusted medium for Bengali short stories.

Over the past eight decades, thousands of short stories have been regularly published in its pages—a truly vast collection in sheer numbers. Previously, we released Dui Dashoker Desh Galpo Sankalan (1983-2003) and Desh-er Galpo (2003-2005). Continuing this tradition, we now present Desh-er Galpo (2005-2007)—a collection curated from stories published between November 2005 and October 2007. Every story printed in Desh during this period has been included in the anthology, leaving no room for re-selection, as each was carefully chosen at the time of publication. However, prize-winning stories from competitions held in this period have been excluded.
