Beyond the eastern suburb of Kolkata, Madurdaha, lies Uchhepota. In this village, Badal Guchait makes and sells raw samosas to various shops in the city. At home, he has a wife, three sons, and two daughters. His youngest daughter, Aparna, drops out of school after passing her secondary exams and becomes skilled at making samosas to help with household work. While visiting a park, she meets Sumant Majumdar. Hoping to settle down with Sumant, she leaves her home, but a sense of impending danger lingers in her mind. At home, a yellow bird has laid eggs on the jackfruit tree.
Under the pretext of going to Puri, Sumant takes Aparna to his friend's small room in Delhi. Haidar, a resident of Bajitpur Domkal, used to smuggle cough syrup. He married Regina out of love. Later, in Delhi, he, along with Jitender, traffics village girls to various red-light areas across the country and the Middle East. Jitender falls in love with Anju and wants to leave the trafficking business. Meanwhile, both Haidar and Sumant are captivated by Aparna's beauty and don't want to let her go. Will Aparna be able to escape this trap and return to the yellow bird? Or will she get lost in the dark alley? This gripping narrative is the essence of Humayun Kabir's ‘Uchhepota’s Yellow Bird’.
