The lack of agricultural technology terminology in Bengali is particularly noticeable. People who are not familiar with basic botany or agricultural technology certainly need gardening books written in their mother tongue for easier understanding. Books like the "Dictionary of Horticultural Terms" in English, written for students of agricultural science, do not serve much purpose for the general gardening enthusiast due to the language barrier.
The renowned horticulturist Subimal Chandra De's "Udyan-Prayukti Abhidhan" (Horticultural Technology Dictionary) addresses this gap. It includes Bengali equivalents for English terminology along with their detailed descriptions and meanings of Latin binomial plant names (both generic and specific). The book is enriched with numerous illustrations. This dictionary effort in Bengali is indeed a novel initiative.
