"Tarapada Roy was born in November 1936, in Tangail, Bangladesh. His education began in Bangladesh, and in 1951, he came to Kolkata for college. He was a student of Economics at the University of Calcutta. For a while, he worked as a teacher before joining government service. He retired in 1994 as the Director of the Department of Information and Culture of the Government of West Bengal.

He started writing poetry during his childhood and has published over a thousand poems to date. He also edited two little magazines, ‘Purba Megh’ and ‘Koyekjon.’ Alongside poetry, he has written extensively in humor, as well as stories, short novels, and children’s literature."
