Subhas Chandra Bose was born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack. His father was Janakinath Bose, and his mother was Prabhabati Devi. He completed his matriculation from Ravenshaw Collegiate School and obtained a B.A. from Scottish Church College. He studied philosophy at the University of Cambridge and passed the Indian Civil Service (ICS) examination in 1920. However, he resigned from the ICS to dedicate himself to serving the nation.
Under the leadership of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das, Bose began his political career. He became the president of the Provincial Congress Committee and the mayor of Kolkata Corporation in 1939. He quickly established himself as a national leader. Differences in opinion arose with the right-wing Congress leaders. Bose was elected president of the Haripura and Tripuri Congress sessions in 1938 and 1939, respectively. He was imprisoned multiple times and was honored by Rabindranath Tagore with the title of "Deshanayak" (leader of the nation).
In 1939, Bose founded the Forward Bloc. In 1941, he left India and, with the help of Indian and foreign forces residing in Europe and later Southeast Asia, formed the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army) to secure India's independence. The INA entered Indian territory and established the first independent government of India. Subhas Chandra Bose, known as "Netaji," became one of the world's most renowned revolutionary leaders.
Bose's unwavering dedication to India's freedom struggle and his visionary leadership continue to inspire generations.
