"Samaresh Mazumdar was born on March 10, 1944. His childhood was spent in the tea gardens of Dooars. He was a student of Jalpaiguri District School. He came to Kolkata in 1960. Education: Honors in Bengali from Scottish Church College, later M.A. from the University of Calcutta. Initially, he was involved in group theater. Then, while writing plays, he started writing stories. His first story was published in 'Desh' magazine in 1967. His first novel 'Dour' was published in 'Desh' magazine in 1975. Books: Dour, Ei Ami Renu, Uttaradhikar, Bondinibas, Boro Paap He, Ujan Ganga, Basbhumi, Lokkhir Panchali, Unish Bish, Sowar, Kalbela, Kalpurush and many more. Honors: The 1982 Ananda Puraskar in recognition of his merit. Besides, for the film story of 'Dour', he received awards from BFJA, Dishari, and the Film Promotion Committee. In 1984, he won the Sahitya Akademi Award for the novel 'Kalbela.'"
