Nabaneeta Dev Sen was born in 1938 in the "Bhalo-Basha" house in South Kolkata. The renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore named her Nabaneeta. She was born into the Dev family and later took the Sen surname after her marriage. At the age of twelve, she traveled to Europe with her parents, Narendra Dev and Radharani Devi. She earned her BA in English from Presidency College and her MA in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, graduating first in her class. The following year, she married the economist Amartya Sen. She received her MA with distinction from Harvard and her PhD from Indiana University. Nabaneeta Dev Sen was a professor of Comparative Literature at Jadavpur University. She had a passion for books, records, and extensive travel. Her first poetry collection, 'Pratham Pratyay,' was published in 1959, and her first novel, 'Ami Anupam,' was published in the 1976 Puja edition of Anandabazar. She authored numerous books, including stories, essays, travelogues, and children's literature. 'Nati Nabaneeta' was her first collection of humorous writings. Nabaneeta Dev Sen passed away on November 7, 2019.
