In the remote region of Hijol in Murshidabad district, primarily inhabited by poor Muslim communities, a new village sees the birth of Final aka Khokon Ghazi, the ninth and last child of a poor Muslim family, in the 1950s. Despite familial neglect, Khokon finds a place in his grandmother's heart, and she clings to him during her neglected final years. In New Village, shrouded in superstitions and illiteracy, love, affection, and even extramarital affairs thrive.

After his grandmother's sudden death, Khokon becomes neglected once again and grows up doing odd jobs for the villagers. A woman engaged in an affair is divorced by the village council and married off to Khokon. She goes missing while picking flowers. Another divorcee's second marriage fails on her wedding day when her four-day marriage expenses become public. The elders marry Rabea off to Khokon, who is reluctant to attend the wedding.

Khokon's household brightens with the arrival of his two children, Yusuf and Rukshahana. Having missed out on his own education, Khokon is particularly attentive to his children's studies. The exceptionally talented children move from school to college and, naturally, fall in love with individuals from different communities, where religious identities become secondary.

Meanwhile, the poison of politics spreads through the village, and amid intense conflicts, the peaceful Khokon becomes the head of the Hijol region. Suspicion leads to the murder of two opposition members, implicating Khokon and his son Yusuf. One day, Khokon disappears, and Yusuf is arrested by the police. Through this novel, the author aims to capture the essence of rural Muslim society in West Bengal over the past sixty to sixty-two years.
