"Sukanta Gangopadhyay was born on January 21, 1961, in Uttarpara, Hooghly. His paternal ancestors were from Bihar, while his maternal lineage is from Dinajpur, Bangladesh. He completed his school and college education in Uttarpara. He studied photography and is the head of the technical department of a photo-printing company. He began writing during his student years. After his first story was published in Desh magazine, he gained recognition among a larger readership. He received the Ananda-Snowsam Sharad Arghya for the best novel in 1999 and 2002, the Ananda-National Insurance Sharad Arghya for the best novel and the best short story in 2003, and the Dettol-Anandabazar Sharad Arghya for the best short story in 2006. Additionally, he received the Galpomela Award in 1997, the Sahityasetu Award in 2001, the Sutapa Raychowdhury Memorial Award from Bangla Academy in 2005, the Sailajananda Birth Centenary Memorial Award in 2007, the Taradas Bandopadhyay Literary Honor in 2013, and the Gajendrakumar Mitra and Sumathanath Ghosh Memorial Award in 2014."
