Leela Majumdar Leela Majumdar was born on February 26, 1908, in Kolkata, at the house of her uncle Upendrakishore Ray Chowdhury. Her father, Promadaranjan Ray, was the creator of "Boner Khabar" and an employee of the Indian Survey Department. Her husband was Dr. Sudhir Kumar Majumdar. She spent her childhood in the hills of Shillong. Since 1920, she has been in Kolkata. She topped both her B.A. and M.A. exams in English with first-class honors. She taught for a while at Darjeeling, Shantiniketan, and the women's section of Ashutosh College in Kolkata. She then dedicated her entire life to independent literary pursuits. For a brief period, she also worked as a radio producer. Her first children's book was "Badyinather Bari," and her first novel for adults was "Shrimati." She served as the joint editor of the magazine "Sandesh" for many years. She has been honored with numerous awards, including the Rabindra Puraskar, Ananda Puraskar, Leela Puraskar, and the Indian Children's Literature Award. She passed away on April 5, 2007.
