Kumarprasad Mukhopadhyay

Kumarprasad Mukhopadhyay was born in February 1927 in Allahabad. He spent two years studying at Mitra Institution in Kolkata before completing his matriculation. However, most of his education, from school to university, took place in Lucknow. He earned a Master's degree in Economics and Sociology.

He worked as an officer in the Central Government's Industrial Management Pool. During the later part of his career, from 1967 to 1984, he served as the Commercial Director of NCDC, Coal Mines Authority, and Coal India Limited. After retirement, he remained associated with several companies.

His musical training began at the age of eight under Rabindralal Roy. He became a disciple of Padma Bhushan Ustad Mushtaq Hussain Khan and was deeply influenced by Ustad Faiyaz Khan (Aftab-e-Mausiqi). He also received extensive training from Ustad Ata Hussain Khan and Ustad Latafat Hussain Khan.

He performed in most major cities of India and at renowned music conferences, except for Punjab's Harballabh Festival. His debut radio performance was as an invited artist on the National Program.

As a musician and scholar, he has delivered lectures and performances at prestigious institutions, including the Sangeet Research Academy in Kolkata, the Institute of Advanced Studies in Shimla, the Academy and Tyagaraja Vidwat Samaj in Madras, and the Gayan Samaj and Gana Kala Parishad in Bangalore. In 1972, Gana Kala Parishad honored him with the title of "Pandit."

He received the Rabindra Puraskar (Bengali Year 1403) for his book Kudrat Rangibirangi. In addition to music, he was a skilled photographer, and his solo exhibitions at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kolkata were highly acclaimed.
