The story revolves around Samyak and Carol, who meet at an international literary camp in England. They are both poets, working on translations. Samyak has brought translations of Sylvia Plath's poems, while Carol has brought translations of Jibanananda Das's works. In a charming hilly town surrounded by rivers and old bookstores, they weave a diary of their conversations, and through their translations, the lives of these literary-minded individuals unfold.
Parallelly, the story introduces Carol's father, the world-famous translator William Bright, who lives a nearly solitary life in a luxurious retirement home by the sea, where residents suffer from memory loss. The lives of Martha, an elderly resident, and Dr. Boyle, a caretaker, begin to change around him. Despite reaching the pinnacle of fame and success, Professor Bright is engulfed by deep melancholy, realizing that translation is essentially synonymous with failure.
In between these two parallel streams, a mundane event opens a magical door, where two indirect characters of the novel, two deceased poets, meet face-to-face. This multi-faceted flow of life, with its conflicts and attractions, moves towards a wondrous confluence, and this unprecedented journey forms the crux of Srijato's novel, 'Brikkha Anubadak' (The Tree Translator).
