বাংলা সাহিত্যে ইতিপূর্বে সম্ভবত এমন বইয়ের নজির আর নেই। বিগত ১১৫ বছরের সময়কালের মধ্যে নানা সময়ে ও গ্রন্থে প্রকাশিত ৩৫ টি লেখাকে চূড়ান্ত করেই এই বই নির্মিত হয়েছে।  প্রতিটি গল্পের কথক একজন গল্পকার যিনি গল্প বলে বা পড়ে শোনাচ্ছেন। ৩৬০ পাতার বইটি জুড়ে যে লেখা গুলো সংকলিত হয়েছে আমরা আশাবাদী প্রতিটি লেখাই পাঠক পাঠিকাদের মন জয় করতে সক্ষম হবে। বাংলার কালজয়ী সাহিত্যিকদের তো বটেই সেইসঙ্গে আমরা একালের সাহিত্যিকদের লেখাও সংযুক্ত করেছি এই বইয়ে। এই বইয়ে বেশ কিছু অগ্রন্থিত লেখাও স্থান পেয়েছে।

এই গ্রন্থে অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়েছে এমন সমস্ত কাহিনি যেখানে গল্পের মধ্যে গল্প থাকবে অর্থাৎ প্রত্যেকটি গল্পের মধ্যেই এমন এক চরিত্র থাকবে যে তার শ্রোতাদের কোনও গল্প বলে বা পড়ে শোনাচ্ছে; যেমন তারিণীখুড়ো। প্রায় সব ধরনের কাহিনিই রাখার চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে এ-গ্রন্থে, যার মধ্যে সামাজিক, হাস্যকৌতুক, ভৌতিক, অলৌকিক, রহস্য; সমস্তটাই অঙ্গীভূত। সাথে      এই চেষ্টাও করা হয়েছে যে এমন কোনও লেখা না রাখতে যার সঙ্গে অধিকাংশ পাঠক-পাঠিকারা আগের থেকেই পরিচিত।  এই গ্রন্থে পাঠক-পাঠিকারা এমন একটি গল্প পাবেন যেটি তাঁদের অধিকাংশের কাছেই অত্যন্ত পরিচিত ঠেকবে কিন্তু তাঁদের অধিকাংশই গল্পটির অন্য একটি ভার্সান পড়েছেন। এখানে গল্পের মূল ভার্সানটি রাখা হয়েছে। এ-গ্রন্থে কাহিনির মোট সংখ্যা ৩৫। এই ধরনের গ্রন্থ বাংলার সাহিত্য-জগতে আগে কখনও আবির্ভূত হয়েছে বলে মনে হয় না।

There is probably no precedent for a book like this in Bengali literature. This volume has been created by finalizing 35 pieces of writing that were published at different times and in different books over the past 115 years. In each story, the narrator is a storyteller—someone who is either telling a story or reading one aloud. Spread across 360 pages, the collected writings are expected to captivate readers, one and all. Alongside works by Bengal’s timeless literary masters, this book also includes writings by contemporary authors. Several pieces included here have never before been published in book form.

This anthology brings together all those narratives that feature a story within a story—that is, in every tale there is a character who tells or reads out a story to an audience, much like Tarini Khuro. An effort has been made to include almost every kind of narrative in this collection, encompassing social stories, humour, ghostly and supernatural tales, mystery, and more. At the same time, care has been taken not to include works that most readers are already very familiar with.

In this book, readers will encounter at least one story that seems extremely familiar to many of them—but most will have read a different version of it earlier. Here, the original version of that story has been presented. The total number of stories included in this volume is 35. A collection of this kind appears to be unprecedented in the world of Bengali literature.
