বাংলার সাহিত্য জগতে "ধীরেন্দ্রলাল ধর" (১৯১২-১৯৯১) আজ বিস্মৃত এক নাম। রহস্য-রোমাঞ্চ থেকে আরম্ভ করে সামাজিক, হাস্যকৌতুক, ভৌতিক-অলৌকিক, অভিযাত্রিক, ঐতিহাসিক; সমস্ত ধরনের রচনার সৃজনে সিদ্ধহস্ত ছিলেন তিনি। এমন কী রূপকথা ও যুদ্ধের কাহিনিও প্রচুর লিখেছিলেন। তাঁর লেখা যুদ্ধের কাহিনিগুলি সে-সময়ে অত্যন্ত জনপ্রিয়ও হয়েছিল। তবে যে-রচনাগুলি তাঁকে খ্যাতির শীর্ষে নিক্ষেপ করেছিল; তা সম্ভবত তাঁর ঐতিহাসিক ও রহস্য-রোমাঞ্চধর্মী রচনাগুলিই ছিল। ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনাগুলিকে নিজের চোখের সামনে ঘটতে না দেখেও যেভাবে সেগুলির বর্ণনা তিনি দিয়েছেন, তা সমস্ত রকমের প্রশংসার ঊর্ধ্বে। লেখকের সমস্ত ধরনের রচনা পাঠক-পাঠিকাদের মাঝে, এক-এক করে নিয়ে আসার উদ্দেশ্যেই এই গ্রন্থের পরিকল্পনা করা হয়েছে। আপাতত তাঁর ঐতিহাসিক রচনা দিয়েই সে কাজের সূচনা করা হল।

In the world of Bengali literature, Dhirendralal Dhar (1912–1991) is today a largely forgotten name. From mystery and adventure to social narratives, humour, the supernatural, travel tales, and historical writing—he was adept at creating works in every genre. He even wrote extensively in fairy tales and war stories, and his war narratives were extremely popular in their time.

However, the works that truly propelled him to the height of fame were most likely his historical and mystery–adventure writings. The way he described historical events—without having witnessed them firsthand—was beyond all praise.

This volume has been planned with the aim of gradually bringing all of the author’s varied works back to readers, one by one. For now, the initiative begins with his historical writings.
