‘নটে গাছ ও অন্যান্য লেখা’ আমার সময়তরণী বেয়ে চলা যাপনের সাতটি পৃথক তমসুক।… আমরা যারা গত শতাব্দীর আটের দশকে বালক থেকে কিশোর হয়ে উঠেছিলাম, তাদের সেই বৃদ্ধির কমপ্ল্যান হিসেবে এই গ্রন্থের প্রতিটি উপাদানই সে সময় কোনও-না-কোনওভাবে ক্রিয়াশীল ছিল। এই লেখাগুলির মধ্য দিয়ে তাই হয়তো গত শতাব্দীর শেষান্তে নাগরিক বঙ্গজীবনের সমাজজিজ্ঞাসার এক ধরনের কৈশোরক ভাষ্য পাওয়া যেতে পারে। আবার তা না পাওয়া গেলেও নিছক এক সংস্কৃতিকর্মীর বয়ঃসন্ধিক্ষণ ও তার অভিনিবেশের ক্ষেত্র হিসেবেও এগুলিকে দেখা যেতে পারে। তবে সব ক’টি লেখার মধ্যেই কোনও-না-কোনও সাদৃশ্য তথা যোগাযোগ আছে। নিশ্চিত আছে।

“Note Gachh and Onnyanyo” is a set of seven distinct promissory notes drawn from a life carried forward on the raft of time. For those of us who grew from boys into adolescents during the 1980s of the last century, every component of this book was, in some way or another, active during that formative period—almost as if it were a complaint or record of that growth.

Through these writings, one may therefore find a kind of adolescent commentary on the social inquiries of urban Bengali life at the close of the previous century. Even if one does not, these pieces may still be read simply as the coming-of-age of a cultural worker and the fields of his engagement. Yet, within all the writings, there exists a certain similarity and interconnectedness. That connection is undeniable.
