Jimbocho in Tokyo is a paradise for any book lover. Just a short walk from the railway station, you’ll find thousands of secondhand bookstores. In a quiet corner there stands a wooden building that houses the Morisaki Bookshop.

For three generations, the shop has been run by Takako’s family, who is now twenty-five years old. However, she herself never felt much of an attachment to books. After her grandfather’s death, the responsibility of looking after the shop has fallen on her uncle Satoru. All his thoughts and worries revolve entirely around the shop. Ever since his wife, Momoko, left him five years ago, his absorption in books has only increased.

Takako’s monotonous life takes an unexpected turn when her boyfriend suddenly announces that he is going to marry someone else. By a twist of fate, she ends up living in the small room on the second floor of the Morisaki Bookshop. In the days she spends there with a broken heart, she suddenly discovers, among the old books, a completely unfamiliar world. A new door opens before her.

With time, Satoru and Takako come to understand each other better. As always, a person cannot truly be known from a distance—this proves itself once again. Days at the Morisaki Bookshop is, at its heart, a story about friendship, loneliness, human relationships, and above all, the journey of finding oneself amid the world of books.
