শম্ভুপ্রসাদ সুমতি হির হুলসী
রাম-চরিতমানস কবি তুলসী।

এর অর্থ মহাদেব শম্ভুর প্রসাদে হুলসীর হৃদয়ানন্দবর্ধনকারী তুলসীর হৃদয়ে সুমতি হওয়াতে সে রাম-চরিতমানসের, অর্থাৎ রামায়ণের কবি হইলেন। সারা ভারতে যুগ যুগ ধরে সর্বস্তরের মানুষ এই রাম-চরিতমানসের অমৃত আস্বাদন করে আসছেন। অতি সাধারণ মানুষের জন্য অযোধ্যায় প্রচলিত হিন্দি ভাষায় এই মহাকাব্যটি তিনি রচনা করেছিলেন আদিষ্ট হয়ে। সুরলোক থেকে তাঁর কাছে নির্দেশ এসেছিল। 

অমৃতলোকের আশীর্বাদ ছাড়া এমন একটি কাব্য রচনা করা যায় না। তুলসীদাসের বাল্যজীবন অতি দুঃখের। তিনি বত্রিশটি দাঁত নিয়ে জন্মেছিলেন। কুলপুরোহিত বলেছিলেন, এই সন্তানটিকে তোমরা ত্যাগ কর। সংসারে রেখো না। তোমাদের সর্বনাশ হবে। পরিবার থেকে পরিত্যাজ্য হয়েছিলেন তুলসীদাস। এ যেন শাপে বর। তাঁকে মানুষ করলেন তাঁদের কুলগুরু সাধু নৃসিংহদাস। তুলসীদাস তাঁর বাল্য ও কৈশোর কাটালেন আশ্রমিক পরিবেশে। সাধুসঙ্গে। সাধু নৃসিংহদাসই পাত্রী নির্বাচন করে তুলসীকে সংসারী করার চেষ্টা করলেন। তাঁর স্ত্রীর নাম রত্নাবলী। অদ্ভুত ব্যাপার! এই রত্নাবলী যেন তাঁকে সাধনার পথে এগিয়ে দিলেন চরম উপেক্ষার করুণায়। 

তুলসীদাস সুন্দরের পূজারী ছিলেন। সুন্দরী স্ত্রীকে এক মুহূর্ত ছেড়ে থাকতে পারতেন না। এই আকর্ষণের সাংসারিক ও সামাজিক ভুল ব্যাখ্যা হল। তুলসী স্ত্রৈন। সহধর্মিণীর তিরস্কারে খুলে গেল ধর্মপথ। প্রকাশিত হলেন মহাসাধক তুলসীদাস। বারাণসীতে তাঁর আধ্যাত্মিক জীবনের শুরু ও শেষ। শেষ নাহি যাঁর তিনিই তো অশেষ। রামময় তুলসীদাসকে সকলে বলতেন 'রামবোলা'। তিনি ভগবান রামচন্দ্র এবং সীতা দেবীর দর্শন পেয়েছিলেন। মহাবীরের কাছে পেয়েছিলেন পথনির্দেশ। জীবনের দু'টি দিকের অভিজ্ঞতা ছিল বলেই তিনি যেসব দোঁহা লিখে গেছেন তা যেন চাবুক। আমাদের চেতনাকে বিদ্ধ করে। সমাজ ও সামাজিক মানুষের স্বরূপকে -তুলে ধরে। তুলসীদাস অমর। তাঁর সৃষ্টি অমর। সাহিত্যকে তিনি সমৃদ্ধ করেছেন। আমাদের জন্যে রেখে গেছেন এই দোঁহাটি

তুলসী যব জগ মে আয়ো, তুলসী রোয়ে জগ হাসে 
তুলসী যব জগ সে যায়ো, তুলসী হাসে জগ রোয়ে।।

বইটি বাঁধানো হয়েছে ঐতিহ্যবাহী পুঁথি শৈলীতে, সাটিন কাপড়ে , যা প্রাচীন পাণ্ডুলিপির আভিজাত্য ও সৌন্দর্যের কথা মনে করিয়ে দেয়।
