বাংলা সাহিত্যে যেসমস্ত কথাসাহিত্যিক ভৌতিক-অলৌকিক কাহিনি লিখে খ্যাতি লাভ করেছেন, তাঁদের নামের সূচিতে মঞ্জিল সেন-এর নাম নিঃসন্দেহে ওপরের দিকেই থাকবে। তিনি যেসমস্ত ভয়ের কাহিনি লিখেছেন, সেগুলোকে তিনভাগে ভাগ করা যেতে পারে। প্রথম, এমন কাহিনি যেখানে সরাসরিভাবে প্রেতের উপস্থিতি আছে; দ্বিতীয়, এমন কাহিনি যেখানে সরাসরিভাবে প্রেতের উপস্থিতি না থাকলেও অপার্থিব বা অলৌকিক ঘটনার উল্লেখ আছে, কিন্তু মূল রহস্যটি অমীমাংসিত থেকে গিয়েছে এবং তৃতীয়, এমন কাহিনি যেখানে ভয়ের ব্যাপার আছে, ভূত-প্রেত বা অলৌকিক ঘটনার উল্লেখ আছে কিন্তু শেষে দেখা গিয়েছে যে, ব্যাপারটি আসলে ভৌতিক বা অলৌকিক কোনোটাই নয়; পুরো ব্যাপারটাই পার্থিব! তবে, এই তিন ধরনের রচনাতেই একটি উপাদান সর্বদা উপস্থিত, যা হল ভয়! ভয় সমগ্র-র এই তৃতীয় খণ্ডে এই তিন ধরনের কাহিনিকেই স্থান দেওয়া হয়েছে। কাহিনির সংখ্যা ৪৪। কোনোটি গ্রামবাংলার পটভূমিতে রচিত তো কোনোটি ভারতের অন্য কোনো প্রান্তের গ্রাম বা শহরের পটভূমিতে রচিত। কোনোটির পটভূমি বাংলারই কোনো বর্ধিষ্ণু শহর তো কোনোটির পটভূমি খাস শহর-কলকাতা!

Among the Bengali fiction writers who have earned fame for their ghostly and supernatural tales, Manjil Sen’s name would undoubtedly appear near the top of the list. The horror stories he wrote can be broadly divided into three categories.

First — stories in which there is a direct presence of ghosts.
Second — stories where there may be no direct ghostly presence, but references to supernatural or otherworldly events exist, with the central mystery remaining unresolved.
Third — stories where there is an element of fear, with mentions of ghosts or supernatural happenings, but in the end, it turns out that the incident was neither ghostly nor supernatural—the entire matter was purely earthly!

However, in all three types of works, one element is always present: fear.

In this third volume of The Complete Fear Collection, all three types of stories have been included—a total of 44 tales. Some are set against the backdrop of rural Bengal, others in villages or towns from different parts of India. Some are set in prosperous cities of Bengal, while a few take place in the very heart of Kolkata itself.
