সেদিন ছিল ভরা পূর্ণিমা। পূর্ণ চন্দ্র দেখা দিয়েছে গগনে, এই চাঁদ যেন পরী শায়েরের ভালোবাসার স্বাক্ষীস্বরূপ হয়ে এসেছে। জানালার কিঞ্চিৎ ফাঁক গলিয়ে চুঁইয়ে চুঁইয়ে ঢুকছে চাঁদের আলো। হারিকেনের আলো আজ সম্পূর্ণ নিষিদ্ধ হলো যেন। এই জোৎস্নায় শায়ের উপভোগ করল পরীর সৌন্দর্য। কিছুক্ষণ আগ পর্যন্ত দুজনে বাড়ির ছোট্ট উঠোনে বসে ছিল। খোলা আকাশ, মৃদুমন্দ হাওয়া আর একটুখানি ভালোবাসা। এভাবেই যেন চলে যাক আজীবন।

পরী আরেকটু পাশে ঘেঁষে আসলো শায়েরের। অথচ আর এতটুকুও জায়গায় ফাঁক নেই দুজনের মধ্যিখানে। সুচ ফেললে তাও আটকে যাবে। পরীর এমন কাজে হাসল শায়ের যা ওর সহধর্মিণী দেখতে পেল না। মুখটা পরীর কানের কাছে এনে ফিসফিস করে বলল, 'যদি আপনাকে আমার শরীরের ভেতর লুকিয়ে রাখার সাধ্য হতো তা হলে তা-ই করতাম।'

ভারি সুখ সুখ অনুভব করল পরী। ও তো এটাই চায়। নিজের স্বামীর ভাগ কজন মেয়ে দেয়? এই যে এত সুন্দর মুহূর্ত সে শায়েরের সাথে কাটাচ্ছে ভাবতেই গাঁ শিউরে উঠছে পরীর। তার স্থানে অন্য কোনো নারীর কথা চিন্তাও করে না। শায়ের আরেকটু ঘনিষ্ঠ হয়ে এলো পরীর কাছে। ঠিক সে মুহূর্তে দরজায় টোকা পড়ল। বেশ জোরে জোরেই কেউ কড়াঘাত করছে দরজায়। শায়ের বিরক্ত হলো বেশ, সুন্দর সময়টা এত দ্রুত নষ্ট করে দিল!

শায়ের বিরক্ত হয়েই জিজ্ঞেস করল, 'কে?'

It was a night of the full moon.
The full moon had risen in the sky, almost as if it had come to bear witness to the love between Pari and Shayer.
Moonlight gently seeped in through the slight crack in the window, slowly dripping into the room.
The glow of the hurricane lamp seemed utterly forbidden tonight.
In that silver light, Shayer basked in Pari’s beauty.
Just a little while ago, the two had been sitting in their small courtyard—under the open sky, in a soft breeze, with just a touch of love.
They wished life would go on just like this, forever.

Pari moved even closer to Shayer—though there was not a sliver of space left between them.
Even a needle would be stuck if one tried to slide it in.
Shayer smiled at her gesture— a smile his wife could not see.
He brought his face close to Pari’s ear and whispered,
"If I had the power to hide you inside my body, I would have."

Pari felt a wave of warmth and joy wash over her.
This is what she longed for.
How many women are willing to share their husbands?
Just the thought that she was spending such a beautiful moment with Shayer made her shiver with happiness.
She couldn’t even imagine another woman in her place.

Shayer leaned in even closer to her.
And just at that very moment—
There was a knock at the door.
A loud, insistent banging.

Shayer grew irritated.
The beautiful moment was ruined so suddenly!

Annoyed, he asked,
“Who is it?”
