At the time of Desh magazine’s inception, Rabindranath Tagore reigned supreme in the world of Bengali poetry. He alone was an institution, with hundreds of poets following in his footsteps. With Tagore and his disciples at its heart, Desh magazine embarked on its journey. Meanwhile, Kazi Nazrul Islam had also established his unique poetic style, attracting a considerable number of followers. Desh honored these poets as well, extending an open invitation to them.

The magazine became a platform for poets from all walks of life—some wrote from within prison as political detainees, while others contributed from distant lands. As Tagore passed away and Nazrul’s voice fell silent, a new wave of "modern" poets emerged, bringing with them a rich diversity in Bengali poetry. Desh remained open to all, welcoming contributions from every literary movement.

Poets like Jibanananda Das, Buddhadeb Basu, and Bishnu Dey were regular contributors. Later, poets such as Subhash Mukhopadhyay, and Nirendranath Chakraborty, and their contemporaries, as well as younger poets, eagerly submitted their finest works to Desh, making it a cornerstone of Bengali literary culture.
